Robotic Vehicle Research
Perception and Guidance Embedded Systems (PGES) in Grenoble, France designs and integrates multi-sensor systems that allow autonomous and remote operation of robotic vehicles. One of their projects is a Navigation and Concept Evaluation for the French Government.
As part of this DGA/ETAS funded project, Sagebrush Technology provided PGES with Model 20 gimbals equipped with 4-inch pan bearings. The bearings provide a mechanically stiffer mounting interface that better resists the shock and vibration of the tracked vehicles and off-road conditions. The gimbals were also customized with additional payload connectors and internal payload wiring. (Photo courtesy of PGES)
Remote-controlled Backhoe for Hazardous Waste Cleanup
This remotely operated construction equipment is used to clean up radiation and toxic waste spills. A Model-20 gimbal on the boom positions a video camera that acts as the eyes for the operator, who is safely located 1/2 mile away. The high vibration and shock environment, continuous outdoor exposure and almost daily washdown with a high pressure hose are not a problem for this off-the-shelf gimbal.
