Beam Directors and Coeleostats
The large axial through-holes that are possible with the Roto-Lok® rotary drive make it an ideal candidate for beam directors and similar optical systems.
The 100mm aperture system above is used to steer the beam of a LIDAR system used to detect objects within the smoke, fog, dust and rain in battlefield conditions. This unit is equipped with 1 arc second encoders mounted on axis to provide precise repeatable geometric measurements. Note the coffee cup for scale.
This Laser Beam Director provides ±2 arc second open-loop positioning. This allows the user to acquire targets based on ephemeris data, and then track them with superb accuracy. This Beam Director can be steered with a joy stick or controlled by commands from a computer.
Sagebrush Technology has provided custom beam directors using the Roto-Lok® technology with clear apertures up to 11 inches (280 mm) and with pointing accuracies of 150 microradians.
